USNC-URSI Travel Awards

USNC-URSI Student Travel Support for the
2020 URSI North American Radio Science Meeting
July 5 – 11, 2020
Montreal, Canada
Deadline for Applications: April 30, 2020

(Please note that the deadline for the student travel support applications is after the deadline for the submission of the URSI abstracts/summaries. Students must submit their abstracts/summaries by the conference paper submission deadline, regardless of whether or not they are applying for student travel support.)

During the summer of 2020, the usual USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting that is held annually together with the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Symposium will be a North American Radio Science Meeting organized jointly by the Canadian National Committee (CNC) and the United States National Committee (USNC) of URSI. The annual Radio Science Meeting becomes a North American Radio Science Meeting approximately every six years. During the years when there is a North American Radio Science Meeting, no National Radio Science Meeting is held in Boulder, Colorado that January. In 2020 the URSI North American Radio Science meeting will be held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

USNC-URSI is pleased to announce that there will be a limited number of student travel support awards to qualifying students attending U.S. universities to help defray the costs of attending the 2020 USNC/CNC-URSI North American Radio Science Meeting. Travel awards will consist of a $1000 reimbursement allowance to partially offset the costs of travel and attending the conference. The awards will be dispersed contingent on availability of funding in the awards program. To be eligible for the travel support, students are required to apply via the conference website. The following guidelines apply.

Guidelines

  1. Awardees must be the first author on an URSI abstract or summary and be enrolled full time at a U.S. university at the time of the abstract submission.
  2. Abstracts and summaries must meet the URSI submission requirements as specified in the Call for Papers, and the paper must be accepted for presentation.
  3. Awardees must present their paper at the conference.
  4. More than one abstract/summary may be submitted by a given student, but only one award per student will be made.
  5. Awardees will be required to pay the student registration fee to attend the meeting, and they are responsible for making their own housing arrangements.
  6. Awardees are responsible for keeping all receipts (hotel, travel, etc.) for reimbursement. Instructions for reimbursement will be given later to the awardees.

Application Process

Student applicants are required to upload the following material on the conference website by the deadline for the travel support applications, April 30, 2020:

  1. A completed travel support application form.
  2. A letter from their primary advisor, stating that they are a full-time student and that they will be making the presentation at the conference.
  3. Because of limitations in funding, students previously funded to attend a National Radio Science Meeting in Boulder might be given lower priority, if funds do not permit all applicants to be funded.

Questions regarding student travel support should be addressed to Prof. Erdem Topsakal at Virginia Commonwealth University (ursi-student-travel@2020apsursi.org).
